We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Coffee Export Expert to join our team. In this role, you will support the end-to-end export process for Ethiopian coffee, ensuring our products meet the highest international quality standards and regulatory requirements. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for a recent graduate with a strong foundation in international trade and a passion for Ethiopia’s most famous commodity.
The ideal candidate possesses a certification in coffee cupping from the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) Academy and has 0-2 years of experience in the coffee or export sector. You will be a key link between our operations, suppliers, and international buyers.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Cupping
- Conduct coffee cupping and sensory analysis to evaluate the quality, flavor profile, and aroma of coffee samples according to ECX grading standards .
- Support the classification of coffee based on ECX parameters for washed and unwashed coffees .
- Assist in ensuring all export-ready coffee meets the quality standards required by the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority and international buyers .
Export Operations & Documentation
- Assist in managing the end-to-end export documentation process, including contracts, commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and phytosanitary certificates .
- Liaise with the ECX, customs authorities, and shipping lines to facilitate the timely clearance and shipment of coffee .
- Coordinate with suppliers, cooperatives, and farmers to ensure quality sourcing and timely delivery .
Communication & Coordination (Mandatory)
- Act as a primary point of contact for international clients and buyers, providing clear and timely updates on order status and shipment milestones.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams (logistics, finance) and external stakeholders (customs brokers, freight forwarders) to resolve any discrepancies or delays.
- Prepare and deliver reports on export activities and coffee quality assessments to management.
Compliance & Market Intelligence
- Stay updated on changes in coffee trade regulations, ECX directives, and international market trends .
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all shipments and quality evaluations for audit purposes.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education (Mandatory)
- Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business Management, Economics, Agribusiness, or a related field.
Experience
- 0 to 2 years of professional experience in coffee export, logistics, or a related field. Fresh graduates with relevant internships are encouraged to apply.
Certification (Mandatory)
- Hold a valid certification in coffee cupping awarded by the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) . This certification is a key requirement to demonstrate proficiency in coffee quality evaluation .
Communication Skills (Mandatory)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (and Amharic is a significant advantage).
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills for liaising with farmers, clients, and government bodies.
- Ability to clearly and professionally document and present quality and export reports.
